Busting Coronavirus Myths

There’s been a lot of fake news about coronavirus floating around and giving us sleepless nights. It’s about time we put an end to it so that we can all go back to sleep. In fact, if there’s any rumor you should believe, it should be one we started earlier this year — a surprise breakfast in bed can cure depression and 8,899 other illnesses!

Okay, let’s bust some myths…

I heard that antibiotics can cure the Rona.

Yeah, we heard it too but it is NOT TRUE! You see, antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections and not viral infections such as COVID-19.

I heard that garlic kills the virus.

NOPE, there is no scientific proof to back this. In line with this one, the rumor that a hot cup of black tea with no sugar acts as a vaccine is also VERY FALSE. However, we did lots of research and it turns out there’s so much you can do with your garlic.

I heard that coronavirus doesn’t affect African people or young people.

The simple answer here is – NO, that’s fake news! Sorry to break it to you but this is not what they meant by “black don’t crack”. As of 30th March 2020, Kenya had reported 42 coronavirus cases and one death. Additionally, WHO reports show Covid-19 infections among people in all age groups, including the young.

I heard that wearing a mask is the only safety measure I need.

That’s totally WRONG! Wearing a mask helps you to avoid touching your mouth and nose, which are two of the common areas where the virus enters your body. Masks also help infected persons to avoid spreading the virus when they cough. But that’s not all you need.

To avoid coronavirus infection, here are the best known preventive measures:

  • Wash your hand regularly with an alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and water.
  • Avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose (MEN).
  • Stay home as much as you can and avoid public gatherings at all costs.
  • Maintain social distancing at all times by maintaining a 2-meter distance between you and other people if you have to go out.

I heard that the quarantine has to be boring.

Also NOT TRUE. To really keep your mind off things, we’ve curated a fun list of things to do during the quarantine. Yoga’na love it! Feel free to share it with your friends and fam:)

Who got the facts right? WHO, WHO, WHO, WHO!

For credible information about Covid-19, we recommend that you visit the World Health Organization website. But hey, we totally get it – Twitter (or your favorite social media platform) keeps you busy during this quarantine. However, beware of the fake news being peddled on these platforms.
